FAQ

Straight answers.

The questions contractors, builders and homeowners ask us most. Do not see yours? Call (813) 539-5118.

What services do I need?

For a replacement, a Manual J makes sure the new system is sized properly, and Manual S matches the equipment to it. On any new system we recommend Manual D so every room gets the air it needs. Energy calculation requirements vary by state and county, and we will help you determine yours.

What do I need to send you?

A dimensioned floor plan, plus elevations and wall sections if you have them. We send a short project questionnaire for the rest. If you are unsure of a detail, we have documented defaults we can use to keep the project moving.

How fast is turnaround?

Quotes are same-day, and we aim to answer every inquiry within 30 minutes during business hours. Turnaround depends on the project and our current volume. Rush service is available when you are up against a permit deadline. Ask when you send your plans.

How much does it cost?

Every project is different, so we quote each one. Send your plans and you will have a quote the same day.

Does your work follow ACCA standards?

Yes. Our designers are ACCA certified, and every calculation follows ACCA Manuals J, S, D, N, T and Q as applicable.

Where do you work?

Anywhere in the United States. We are a remote, family-owned firm based in Lancaster, Kentucky, and every designer is US-based. Our work is never outsourced overseas.

Are you engineers? Can you stamp plans?

We are ACCA-certified HVAC designers, not a PE firm. Most residential permits do not require a sealed mechanical plan. If yours does, tell us up front and we will coordinate with your engineer.

How do I pay?

We send a quote before any work starts, and final documents are delivered by email once the project is paid. Larger projects may require a deposit.

By service

Is a Manual J required for my permit?

In most places that adopt the IRC, yes, for new systems and new construction. Requirements for equipment replacement vary. Tell us the jurisdiction and we will tell you what they typically ask for, then confirm it with the building department if needed.

Do I need a Manual S if I already have a Manual J?

If your jurisdiction follows the IRC, usually yes, because the code ties the two together. We can run Manual S against an existing Manual J.

Can you design for rigid, flex or duct board?

Yes. Tell us what you plan to install before we start, including the filter. Material and filter both change the pressure budget, and we design to what you will actually build.

Do you handle tenant improvements?

Yes. Build-outs inside existing shells are a large share of light-commercial work.

Is Manual T required?

Rarely by code. It is a comfort and quality step. Many clients add it on custom homes.

Residential or commercial?

Both. Multi-zone ductless homes, additions, offices and mixed-use buildings.

Which compliance path should I use?

The one your jurisdiction accepts that gives you the most flexibility. We will tell you before we start.

The plan reviewer rejected our submittal. Can you help?

Yes. Send the comment letter and the submitted documents. We will tell you what is missing and fix it.

What is the difference between Manual D and Manual Q?

Manual D is for residential duct systems. Manual Q is for light-commercial systems, which move more air through larger, longer duct networks.

Can you add ERVs, dehumidifiers and ventilation equipment?

Yes. We have selected ERVs, dehumidifiers and HVAC equipment together on the same project.

Can you review a contractor’s sizing before I sign?

Yes. If the quote is based on a Manual J, send it. If it is not, we can run one.

How detailed does my sketch need to be?

Clear room dimensions and window and door locations. Photos fill in the rest.
