Variable refrigerant flow, zone by zone
VRF design, zone by zone.
Variable refrigerant flow systems connect one outdoor unit to many indoor units and modulate to what each zone needs. They are efficient and quiet when they are sized to real zone loads, and expensive mistakes when they are not.
What it is
We calculate each zone’s load, then select indoor units and outdoor capacity so every zone is covered without stacking unnecessary tonnage.
We document the selections so your installer and distributor can confirm piping lengths and connection limits for the equipment line you use.
When you need it
VRF selection is not one-size-fits-all. Diversity between zones, part-load performance and turndown all depend on a room-level load. Few design shops offer it, and it is one of our specialties.
What we need from you
- Plans with the zones you want
- Preferred manufacturer, if any
- Ceiling or wall constraints for each indoor unit
What you receive
- Zone loads
- Indoor and outdoor unit selections
- Layout notes for the installer
“I have used LCALCS multiple times for HVAC projects. I have nothing but wonderful experiences with them. Prompt, courteous and professional service. Nothing but wonderful things to say, quick Manual J.”
Questions
Residential or commercial?
Both. Multi-zone ductless homes, additions, offices and mixed-use buildings.
Do you work with any brand?
Yes. Tell us the line your distributor carries and we select from it.
Can VRF satisfy a permit load calculation?
The load calculation is still Manual J or Manual N. VRF design sits on top of it.
